It's okay

ashley jordan pierce

I think sometimes as Christians we hold ourselves to an impossible standard. we tell ourselves that we are not allowed to be sad, we aren’t allowed to desire happiness, or to get angry. but these are just lies we all believe. satan wants us to believe we have to be perfect so we will feel defeated every day.

it’s okay to be sad

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” Matthew 5:4. we are allowed to be sad- sad things happen daily. it’s okay to be sad if we don’t get the position we wanted, the first date doesn’t go as well as we hoped, or we lose a game. it is okay to be sad. being sad is a HUMAN emotion. God isn’t asking us to be super-human and block out any emotions. it is in the sadness that we truly discover Jesus as our comforter.

it’s okay to say that life sucks

yes, life can suck. we get our hearts broken, we lose a loved one, we get sick, or we just mess up- life is hard.  we sit and wonder, “why is this happening to me? I am a good person! I read my bible everyday, I love Jesus, & I haven’t missed church in seven years!” yes, going to church for seven years without missing a Sunday is quite impressive, but so is watching God turn your pain into an amazing story. we will never know the true strength of Jesus if we are never weak. (2 corinthians 12:9-11) we will never know the true joy of the Lord if we lie to ourselves and stuff our emotions.

it’s okay to want to know

we want to know what happens on next weeks episode. we want to know if we are going to get married, we want to know if we are going to be healed, and that is okay. this is just being real. think about it this way, if we knew what was going to happen, when it happens, or why it happens, why would we need God? wouldn’t we be playing God? Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” we can make our own plans, but trusting that the Lord is going to guide you to your best outcome is the best plan.

it’s okay to want to have fun

many times, especially for Christian teenagers, we fall under the impression that because we are Christians we cannot have fun. let me tell you first hand, THIS IS A LIE. some of my most favorite memories are with my Christian friends, playing late night volleyball,  watching my friends build a huge ramp into their pool, these are some of my most treasured memories.  Jesus doesn’t want us to be miserable. He wants us to enjoy ourselves and relationships in the best way possible. God is FOR us, he is NOT against us.

it’s okay to have fun.

it’s okay to have emotion.

it’s okay to be human.
